Two Prime Ministers came to launch Little India.

BRICKFIELDS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh came for the launch of the first phase to upgrade and beautify Brickfields into “Little India” on Oct 27. More than 5000 from different races people assembled in Little India before the launch to testify the historic moment.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Datin Rosmah Mansor arrived at around 5.05pm. The event started once India’s Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and his wife arrived.

A colourful Malaysian cultural dance and One Malaysia dances were being performed to show the many interesting cultures of Malaysia for Dr Manmohan. Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says that the project of Little India will be the tourist attraction and more people will visit the place. This shows that the reintegrated Brickfields will benefit the residents around the area with a smoother traffic flow and also people undergoing the business at that area.
Dr Manmohan said that the Prime Minister for having the wonderful idea to celebrate the diversity and visuality diversity that characterises both India and Malaysia. Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak proposed for the area to be developed during a walkabout in Brickfields, on April last year. Brickfields' renovation project covers an area near KL Sentral, a transportation hub in the capital of Jalan Travers to Jalan Tun Sambathan and the development is done in two phases.

The developer of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) stated that the project involved a cost of RM35 million. This was good news for residents in Brickfields as the place will be beautified and transformed into a colourful and modern look. The two-phase “Little India” project, worth RM35 million, involves the construction of new business premises and a parking complex, and road expansion. Brickfields are now slowly becoming an area that is rich with the colourful Indian culture.
